Did You Know?
Laura George loves designing and knew, since she was little, that was all she ever wanted to do.
Throughout school, Laura would hunt for work in the design industry. She was an assistant costume designer, costume designer, and she even took on wedding dress commissions.
“I find inspirations from history”, says Laura George, designer of the self-labelled brand – Laura George. Be it a person, character, architecture, or fashion. Laura incorporates the ideals and emotions from those concepts into her collections.
“The collection that I am working on right now is inspired by the idea of a masquerade at Versailles,” says Laura, “there will be a lot of luxurious fabrics, laces, and velvet trims, but remembering to rein it in and not go over the top”.
Expect to see silks dance along the YYCFW runway this upcoming season. “I got a few different weights of silk satins, a nice Georgettes, and bunch of laces.”
Laura will also be adding a little bit of color to her upcoming collection: “I got a little bit of black trim and navy and peacock teal color as well”.
The Laura George Signature: Laura incorporates handmade flowers into her designs. These flowers are based on Hungarian embroidery designs.
