The Dress

This outfit is a very subtle clue to a specific milestone in life. Can you guess what it is?

The dress was inspired by the traditional Chinese Cheongsam. I chose this dress because the entire ensemble matched the holidays coming up this month: Chinese New Year (Feb. 10th) and Valentine’s Day (Feb 14th).  Created in red, I wanted the dress to embody luck and love.

(Designed from a base pattern draft by me, this “Lucky” dress is just the first phase of the “Happiness” project. This phase of the “Happiness” project took only two days – one day was used to modify the base pattern draft for the cutout design and to transfer the draft to fabric (Chinese brocade: $50 at Fabricland); another day was used to sew the dress together and pin the red pockets onto the dress (purchased at Wal-Mart – 10 pockets for $1).

Details on the Happiness Project to come…

Question for the fans:
Why is the number 8 featured (dice)?

The Inspiration

I’m really inspired by the collections by NE-Tiger. His work is definitely a celebration of Chinese culture.

I’m in love with the intricate and colorful embroidery and the unique color and sleeve shapes.

Amazing and beautiful pieces – A great use of traditional Chinese fabric prints and embroidery with modern cuts. Loved the sleeves on the last piece!
